AI Models Translate Dog Barks into Human Understanding

Researchers at the University of Michigan, in collaboration with Mexico’s National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics, and Electronics Institute, have developed AI models capable of interpreting dog barks. These models, initially trained on human speech, identify nuances in barks indicating emotions like playfulness or aggression, and discern details such as the dog's age, breed, and sex. Utilizing the human speech model Wav2Vec2, the team achieved up to 70% accuracy, showcasing AI's potential in bridging communication gaps between humans and animals.

FTC Investigates Microsoft's Inflection AI Deal

The FTC is probing Microsoft's acquisition of Inflection AI to determine if the deal was structured to avoid antitrust review. Microsoft hired Inflection AI's employees and licensed its AI technology for $650 million. The FTC has issued subpoenas to both companies for relevant documents. If found guilty, Microsoft could face fines and suspension of the transaction.
