🧠 Research 🧠
FuseChat: Knowledge Fusion of Chat Models
The paper explores the development of a new chat model by integrating the knowledge from multiple large language models (LLMs) through a process called knowledge fusion, resulting in a more efficient and robust system named FuseChat. This approach mitigates the need for expensive pre-training by utilizing existing LLMs and combines them using lightweight fine-tuning and a novel method for determining merging weights. The results demonstrate FuseChat's superiority across various chat domains, surpassing existing models like GPT-3.5 and approaching the performance of more advanced systems. The study suggests this method as a cost-effective alternative to traditional model training and opens up future research avenues for further enhancement and application of knowledge fusion techniques in chat models.

ChatMusician: Understanding and Generating Music Intrinsically with LLM
A novel open-source large language model (LLM) that comprehensively integrates intrinsic musical understanding and generation capabilities. Unlike previous LLMs, ChatMusician employs a text-compatible music representation, allowing it to understand and generate music using only text-based processes, significantly surpassing the musical capabilities of existing models like GPT-4 in generating structured, full-length compositions. Despite these advancements, the model predominantly generates Irish-style music, indicating a need for a broader dataset to avoid genre bias. Future research should explore expanding the dataset and enhancing the model's ability to support diverse music generation tasks.
