OpenAI Unveils ChatGPT 4o Model Enhancements

It’s all OpenAI this morning and I’m excited to tell you why. Yesterday, they announced the availability of GPT-4o with the o standing for “Omni”. What this means is that the model has been re-trained with omni capabilities (text, vision & audio) from the ground up. Previous iterations treated these as separate stages of the pipeline, now all three are brought together for some interesting results, leading to greater immersion of the user.

Key features include:

1. Improved Latency: 320 milliseconds for audio responses

2. Cost Reductions: in keeping with new model announcements, they have made 4o 50% cheaper than 4 turbo

3. Greater Language Support: higher performance and response rates in over 20 languages

4. Enhanced Audio Processing: From understanding multiple speakers to capturing human emotions in audio.

5. Improved Image, Text & 3D Generation: From getting text correct in images through to basic 3D model generation, the improved models get this right more often, leading to new use cases for marketing and prototyping of ideas.

6. Voice Mode Upgrade: Compared to the AI Assistant in the movie ‘Her’, this new feature enhances its capabilities to read facial expressions, translate languages, and respond with personality

The other big announcement… these capabilities will now be available to all free tier users as well as paid. This opens the door to those who have stayed on GPT 3.5 to experience the most recent intelligence offered by OpenAI. This is a game changer as it brings those on the side line into the game, unlocking new use cases for these amazing features.
